Ear Wrapper

I made a knitting pattern. It took me about one hour start to finish and I love it (and am wearing it right now). Truly a last minute holiday gift and a one-skein zinger! Here's the scoop:

I improvised this design after seeing this headband on Etsy. From start to finish it took me about an hour.

Here is what I did:

yarn: Blue Sky Alpace Bulky Hand Dyed in soft grey

needles: size 11

guage: 4.5 st per 2”

finished size: 3.75"x19" in the round

Using Provisional cast on, cast on 8 stitches.

Knit using Blue Sky Alpaca until piece measures 19 inches. Keep stitches live and leave a tail of about 24-30 inches.

Pick up provisional stitches and remove waste yarn.

Using kitchener stitch, graft two sides together.

With extra yarn fold piece in half lengthwise at grafted seam, wrap yarn repeatedly around this seam/fold to create approx. an inch wide gather.

Weave in ends.

Voila!

I will be making some with smaller gauge yarn as well. Would Auntie wear one of these?? Now's the time to find out!

  2. I was excited for the chance to learn a provisional cast on. I figured it out and used your pattern during my 11 hour drive to see family for Thanksgiving, now I have a good start on Christmas gifts. Thank you so much. I also made a smaller version for my daughter. I casted on 10 stitches for the adult ones I made and stitches for the toddlers.
